Bruckner Society donates funds for the restoration of the Bruckner Organ in Linz
The Bruckner Society of America's board of directors have unanimously endorsed a donation for the restoration of the Bruckner Organ in the Old Cathedral (Alter Dom) in Linz.
The organ was originally built for the monastery church of Engelhartszell around 1760 and was transferred to the Old Cathedral in Linz in 1790. Anton Bruckner was the cathedral organist of the Alter Dom between 1855 – 1868 and according to Bruckner’s wishes, the organ was completely redesigned in the years 1856 – 1867. The last time that the organ was restored was in 1979.
According to the Rector of the Cathedral, More than 35 years after the last restoration a thorough general revision of the organ has become very necessary. During exams of the organ damages in the interior were discovered. Furthermore, it is necessary to repair the damages at the pipes as well as to clean the whole organ and to completely tune it.
The Society will be donating 500 Euros towards this important project.
